Cancer and Healthy Living:
What Does the Evidence Really Tell Us?
Thursday 26 November 2026 | Evening
Venue: TBC – Milton Park, Oxfordshire
Join Dr Kerry Swanton, Professor Sarah Blagden and Dr Tom Newsom-Davis for the inaugural eity20 Live — an evidence-based panel discussion about cancer and healthy living, designed for the general public.
About the event
We are surrounded by information about cancer and health. What should we eat? Does sugar feed cancer? Can cancer be prevented? How much difference does lifestyle really make? And what does the latest research tell us about how cancer might be prevented, detected and treated in the future?
Cancer is complex, and the answers are rarely as simple as the headlines suggest.
This eity20 Live discussion will bring together perspectives from oncology, cancer research, public health, nutrition, psychology and behaviour change to explore what the evidence really tells us.
We’ll discuss cancer risk and prevention, healthy living during treatment and recovery, common myths and misinformation, and some of the exciting developments shaping the future of cancer research and care.
Importantly, this is not about blame or suggesting that cancer can always be prevented through individual behaviour. It is about understanding the evidence, recognising what we can meaningfully influence and helping people focus on what matters most.
Meet the panel
Professor Sarah Blagden
Professor of Experimental Oncology at the University of Oxford. Sarah’s research explores how cancers develop and how they might be prevented and treated, including work involving cancer vaccines, targeted treatments and the evolution of clinical trials.
Dr Tom Newsom-Davis
Consultant Thoracic Medical Oncologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Chair of the British Thoracic Oncology Group. Tom brings extensive clinical expertise in lung cancer, cancer treatment and patient care.
Dr Kerry Swanton – Chair
Founder of eity20, public health specialist, registered nutritionist and coaching psychology practitioner. Kerry’s work brings together public health, nutrition, psychology and behaviour change to support sustainable physical, mental and gut health.
What we’ll explore
- What do we currently understand about why cancer develops?
- What can — and can’t — we meaningfully influence?
- What does the evidence tell us about healthy living and cancer prevention?
- What role can healthy living play during treatment and recovery?
- Sugar, supplements and the “perfect diet”: what does the science actually say?
- How are cancer prevention, detection and treatment changing?
- What does the future of cancer research look like?
There will also be an opportunity to put your own questions directly to the panel.
No specialist knowledge is needed. The event is designed for anyone interested in understanding cancer and health through evidence rather than headlines.
